Medieval. Astronomical. Ancient.
This necklace was made by me using a ceramic bead with a depiction of an astronomical clock. The bead was made in the Peru and is just over 1/2" (14mm) in diameter and 1/8" (4mm) thick. The front of the bead has a raised image of an astronomical clock. A luminescent gold paint has been applied to accentuate the raised surfaces.
In general, astronomical clocks usually have different mechanisms and dials to display astronomical information, such as the relative positions of the sun, moon, zodiacal constellations, and sometimes major planets.
Although there are many astronomical clocks, this bead in particular looks as though it may have been modeled after the Prague Astronomical Clock.

The back side of the bead is a plain cream color. The bead has been wire wrapped with antiqued brass wire and is hanging from antiqued brass plated chain. The ends of the chain are finished off with wire wrapped brass pumpkin beads and a lobster clasp.

Total length of necklace including wire wrapped ends is 16" (40.6cm).
