Some movies I can watch over and over again, The Royal Tenenbaums being solidly on that list. All of Wes Anderson's movies have a certain quirkiness that I adore and are stylized so beautifully. And then there are his characters!
In the spring of 2010 I had a solo show featuring a series of paintings inspired by the stories and characters I love - ranging from childhood right up until the present. Richie and Margot immediately jumped out at me as perfect subjects - their iconic looks, the forbidden love story...wonderful fodder for inspiring my own painting!
I don't paint men very often, so I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of painting Richie in all his bearded, bespectacled glory. Though after the many many many coats of glaze to get his sunglasses the right shade, I'm happy to return to my big-eyed girls. ;)
